It was early fall.
Your alarm went off at six.
The whole game runs right here — nothing to download, nothing to install.
A boring life, a long commute,
and a very tall man.
It was early fall. The leaves were still falling, the streets were shades of orange and yellow, and for you it was another September. Your alarm goes off at six. You make the train. You order your coffee. You go to class. And tomorrow will be exactly the same, and the day after that too.
Then you spill a drink on a stranger in the coffee shop, and on the way to the station you sit down next to a very tall man whose voice is soft and flat, like being cooed by a robot. He introduces himself as Chester, asks to be your lab partner, and watches you with an unreadable expression while you decide what you think of him.
This is a preview build, and it says so — the title screen is stamped V0.0 (PREVIEW) and the chapter closes on a literal End of preview line. The code is already set up for four endings, bad, romance, friends and neutral, each of which swaps the artwork on the main menu, but only the first chapter is playable today.
"Looking up... I met the tired eyes of a very tall man." His name is Chester. And he asks to be your lab partner.
Everything you need, in six notes.
There are no tricks and no hidden buttons. It is a short branching story — read it, choose, replay.
- 01
Name and nickname, first
Before the story starts you set a name and a nickname. Both are used in the script, so pick something you will not regret hearing forty times in a row.
- 02
You decide who you are, in small ways
Are you the sort who talks to people or the sort who avoids it? Are you short, average or tall? Black coffee, latte, or matcha? All of it is remembered and reflected back at you.
- 03
Chester reads you carefully
In the first conversation he asks what you make of him, and the answer — kind, intimidating or beautiful — is a real input, not flavour text. He files it away.
- 04
Two people, one workshop
There is a blond regular called Lukas at the coffee shop, and then Chester, who is very tall, very formal and very interested in you. The narration stays in your own voice the whole way through.
- 05
It is a healing game, not a horror game
The creator calls it a visual novel about painful, ugly feelings. The tone is warm and bruised rather than frightening, and the sound bed is birds, a train interior, a cafe and a classroom.

Plays right here
The preview runs in the player above — no download, no install. It is short, and it stops mid-story on purpose.
What it actually looks like.
Real screens from the build, not mockups.
Before you play
This is an 18+ game. It opens on a content warning screen on first run, and the creator's page links to separate 18+ extras alongside the preview, so the finished release is aimed squarely at adults. The preview chapter itself is quiet and non-explicit, but the build is built for an adult audience.
Before you start over?
The short version of everything above.
Is Gentle Fall finished?
No. This build is a preview — the title screen is stamped V0.0 (PREVIEW) and the chapter ends on an End of preview line. The creator has it listed as still in development, with the itch page updated recently.
How many endings are there?
Four are planned, and the code already handles all four: bad, romance, friends and neutral. Each one swaps the background art on the main menu. Only the first chapter is playable in this preview, so you cannot reach them yet.
Can I change my name?
Yes. Before the story starts you set a name and a nickname, and the game uses both. After that you also pick your own personality, height and coffee order, and it remembers all three.
Does it have voice acting?
Yes — Chester and Lukas both have recorded lines in the build, and the dialogue plays against ambient audio: birds, a train interior, a cafe and a classroom.
What is the story actually about?
A tired, repetitive routine — a six o'clock alarm, a train, a coffee shop, class — and the slow arrival of two people who break it: Lukas, who you spill a drink on, and Chester, the very tall man who asks to be your lab partner.
Made by one person, properly.
