THE STORY

You work at a café.
One morning, you cross paths.

You work at a café. One morning, on the way to work, fate leads you to cross paths with Pierrot, and that is when his obsession begins. He is not the only one — Harlequin, his stage rival, decides to join the game, and a one-sided fixation turns into a competition with you in the middle of it.

Between them they drag in the Doctor, the Jester, Columbina, The Poison, Neko, Carol, a ticket taker and a cast of customers who are not all what they seem. The original script is Portuguese, with the labels still written that way; the build you can play ships the English translation alongside it.

It is a prototype, and the creator is upfront about it. One ending is finished — Missing, and it is not a gentle one. The Pierrot ending, the Harlequin ending and the protagonist ending are all still on the list, and the story is set to run for one more in-game day after this version.

Don't be fooled by their smiles, they're not what they seem. The creator's own warning, and roughly the whole pitch.

HOW TO PLAY

Everything you need, in six notes.

There are no tricks and no hidden buttons. It is a short branching story — read it, choose, replay.

  1. 01

    A tutorial before anything else

The game opens with a short instruction panel explaining the text colours: narration, your own thoughts in parentheses, and the speakers. Adjust the volume first — the creator warns that some sounds are loud.

  2. 02

Your name and pronouns go in early

Before the story starts it asks what your pronouns are and what name is on your badge, and it derives a title from them. Both are threaded through every line afterwards.

  3. 03

Forty-one choice points across two days

Seventeen of them fall in your first shift at the café, twenty-four more on the second day with the circus. There is no map and no stat screen — the only tracker is who is still paying attention to you.

  4. 04

    The cast is the horror

Pierrot, Harlequin, the Doctor, the Jester, Columbina, The Poison, Neko, Carol, the ticket taker and the boss of the café. Each of them wants something from you, and at least two of them want it badly enough to fight over it.

  5. 05

The circus tells you a story of its own

Harlequin narrates a grim little fairy tale about monsters who become human, and the text glitches through it in three broken variants. It is the strangest thing in the game, and it is entirely in character.

  6. 06

    Plays right here

The build runs in the player above — no download, no install. It is short, it is unfinished, and the creator asks that you not reupload the game anywhere else.

THE CIRCUS OF HORRORS

Before you play

This game is rated 18+ and the creator says the yandere theme includes dark elements, strong language and sensitive graphic content. Their own trigger list covers screen shaking; blood, death, murder and gore; allusions to cannibalism; abuse; strong language; kidnapping; non-consensual use of drugs; physical domination; and mild physical harassment and non-consensual physical contact.

GOOD TO KNOW

Before you take the ticket?

The short version of everything above.

Is The Freak Circus finished?

No — the creator lists it as a prototype. One ending is implemented, the Pierrot, Harlequin and protagonist endings are still to come, and the creator asks that the game not be reuploaded or reposted on other sites.

What languages is it available in?

Five in the build: English, Portuguese (Brazil), Chinese, Italian and Japanese. The original script is Portuguese, with the internal labels still written in it.

Does it have voice acting?

Yes. The build plays voice files from its dubbing folder for Pierrot, Harlequin, the Doctor and the ticket taker, and the credits name Darthsuki as the voice actor.

How long is it?

It is a prototype rather than a full game: a tutorial, one shift at the café, and then the beginning of a second in-game day at the circus. The creator says the story continues for one more in-game day after this version.

Can I change my name and pronouns?

Yes. The game asks for your pronouns and the name on your badge before the story starts, and both are used in the script — including the title it gives you.
